Homemade Granola

Yesterday I tried my hand at making some granola.

We were running low on cereal and I had all the ingredients to make this.

I also decided to dehydrate some apple to add as they were real soft and I would normally throw them out. So here is what I did. If you would like information about the electric dehydrator or how I did this just let me know. It’s very simple.







Then I made the granola

What you need is

4 cups of rolled oats
1.5 cups sliced almonds (I left out this time add other nuts I had in the pantry)
.5 cups packed light brown sugar
.5 tsp salt
.5 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup of canola oil
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla

Add in at the end when cooled coconut, raisins, dried apple, flax seeds etc

In a large bowl mix the oats, almonds, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. (I did mine in the tray I was going to dry in the oven – saves cleaning)

In a small saucepan, warm the oil and honey. Carefully stir in the vanilla it bubbles up. Pour liquid over the oat mixture and stir with a wooden spoon. Finish mixing by hand until coated well.

Pop into the oven at 200degs. Crack the oven door open and mix every 10min or so. This will let it dry slowly. Be prepared because it can take a while. I allowed 1hr to watch it but I was doing other things in the kitchen at the same time.

Watch the granola CAREFULLY… Pull out when it is crunchy…but not browned.

Let it cool in the pan for 1hr.

Add your extras. Makes 6 cups. Store in an airtight container.
