Football Federation Australia was saddened to hear that former Pararoos footballer, Daniel Berry, recently passed away following illness.

Pararoos Head Coach Paul Brown paid tribute to Daniel and his outstanding sporting achievements.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Daniel’s family and friends at this very sad time,” said Brown.

“Daniel was an outstanding footballer, athlete and friend to many within our community.

“We all have dreams, but to make those dreams come true it takes a lot of self-discipline, determination and sacrifice and Daniel had all these traits as part of his make-up.

“Daniel had many friends and admirers and he will never be forgotten by those that knew him,’ concluded Brown.

Daniel was selected to attend his first Pararoos camp in March 2009 and then made his international debut at the 2009 CPISRA International Football Championships against Japan on the 25 October 2009.

The Pararoos won that match and qualified for the 2011 World Championships. However there was even more to come for Daniel as he came off the bench for the second time to play against Iran in the final qualification match of the round.

Daniel started in the following match against Scotland and repaid the coaches faith in him by scoring his first international goal for Australia.

Daniel was a member of the NSW Paralympic 7-A-Side Football team from 2009 to 2011 and a member of the Pararoos squad from 2009 to 2011.

In 2011 Daniel had to make a decision between the two sports he loved the most, Athletics and Football. Daniel broke the Australian record in the T36 1500m at the IPC Athletic World Championships in New Zealand.

The Pararoos will be honouring Daniel at the upcoming CPISRA Intercontinental Cup in Spain, where they will be holding a minute silence in remembrance.
